Jet lag is a common issue for travelers who cross multiple time zones, causing disruption to their internal body clock. Symptoms of jet lag include fatigue, difficulty sleeping, and digestive issues. It tends to be more severe when traveling eastward, as the body struggles to adjust to losing time.
Travelers flying westward generally experience milder symptoms, as it's easier for the body to adjust to a longer day than a shorter one.To help alleviate jet lag, experts recommend adjusting sleep patterns before the trip, staying hydrated during flights, and getting exposure to natural light at the destination. Melatonin supplements and avoiding caffeine and alcohol can also help. Though jet lag is uncomfortable, it usually resolves within a few days as the body adapts to the new time zone.
